CANCELED-Anthony Lakes

SORRY, THIS TRIP HAS BEEN CANCELED DUE TO WARM WEATHER. The annual (almost) Anthony Lakes ski and snowshoe weekend is on again! This is always a great weekend. If anyplace has snow it is likely Anthony Lakes will due to their elevation.

We will be staying at the Super 8 in Baker City. They have a hot breakfast, refrigerators and microwaves, and, best of all, a swimming pool and hot tub. Bring your swim suits! Room rates are $77+tax for a room with 2 queens, $99+tax for a room with three queens (one of their rooms has a door separating two queens from the third). I have reserved one room with 2 queens as a group room for those who are interested. I think most people now like to make their own reservations: 1-541-523-8282. Above rates are with AAA or AARP discounts.

The plan:
Hotel check in is after 3PM Pacific Time on Friday. Happy hour around 5:30 PST (BYOB) followed by a fondue/hot pot potluck. We’ll share the cost for major ingredients (cheese fondue, chocolate fondue), so I will need to know how many are participating by at least a week before the event. Thanks. More on the logistics of the potluck later. We’ll have use of the breakfast room at the hotel for this.

There are a couple of options for the afternoon if you want to go over earlier.

The Geiser Grand Hotel has a Step Back in Time tour at 3:30, $5 per person. Reservations required and they do fill up: 1-888-434-7374. I made mine +1 already. They take a maximum of 20. There is a description of the tour on their website.

The Oregon Trail Interpretive Center is open 9AM-4PM, $5 adults, $3.50 seniors, free with the America the Beautiful Pass. 1-541-523-1843.

The Baker Heritage Museum downtown is closed until March.

Saturday morning we’ll head to Anthony Lakes for nordic and downhill skiing and snowshoeing. Bring your own lunch. The hotel has 50% discount coupons for the ski passes. Pick them up at check in. That should make it $6.50 nordic, $17.50 alpine. Age 70 and over free.

Saturday evening dinner is on your own. A group of us often go to Barley Brown’s Brew Pub, but there are several other options.

Sunday is open. Some of us will return to Anthony Lakes. Others may go to the Geiser Grand Hotel for brunch. Others may go to the OR Trail Museum, and others will head straight back to Boise. Plan to arrange this within your carpool group.

Let me know if you’re planning on attending, if you want to share in the group room or are making reservations on your own (and roommate’s name if there is one), if you can drive and how many passengers you’re able to take, what your Friday and Sunday plans are if you know them. I’ll try and coordinate things as much as possible so no one is left out!
